THE READING PROGRAM

UWFaith logo

The United Women in Faith Reading Program encourages members to think critically about current issues through an annual selection of member-reviewed books. It offers an excellent opportunity to deepen your spirituality and to broaden your understanding of our mission work. Subject areas include Nurturing for Community, Social Action, Leadership Development, and Spiritual Growth. The Program is designed to help readers:

· Expand understanding of and participation in God’s mission

· Increase sensitivity to all human beings—their needs, interests, and concerns

· Encourage critical thinking about issues facing humanity today

· Grow in understanding of Scripture as it relates to Christian faith in contemporary life

· Enhance self-knowledge and act from that knowledge

· Strengthen involvement in local and global Christian mission

Whether you read paperbacks, physical books, use e-readers, or listen to audiobooks, United Women in Faith encourages all women to join the UWFaith Reading Program to stay current in our knowledge of today’s issues and to continue to be women of action. The Minnesota Conference of UWFaith offers a free Lending Library for you to check out books from our library of over 140 eligible books from the reading list – a great convenience for those who may take longer to read a book (no late fees!), who do not have easy access to a local library, prefer not to use e-readers or audio books, or don’t wish to purchase books from the reading list. (However, if you do purchase a book, please consider donating it to our library when you have finished reading it!).

Contact Connie Scott to request a book, and it will be mailed to you, along with a return mailing envelope.  When finished, follow the instructions inserted in the book and mail back using “MEDIA MAIL” for a reduced postal rate. Zoom book discussions are available.

Keep a record of the books from the reading program you read each year and send the completed form (found in the Reading Program Catalogue or by contacting Connie) to her at year's end, but before March 1st, to be acknowledged for your participation in the reading program.
